That’s beyond not normal that sounds downright abusive unless she’s riding 2-3 times a day and feeds at least 10% of her horse’s bodyweight in good quality hay with supplements to make up for regional feed requirements OR her horse lives in a very forage-rich environment such as acres of good growing pasture and never experiences a lack of healthy hays and grasses that are good for horses.
This isn’t drama this is a legitimate horse health concern I’d urge you to ask her for a trainer’s advice or call the SPCA (usually they can’t do much if there is horse feed on property but they can help inform your friend of proper feeding practices - just call in an anonymous tip about horses not being fed properly)
Are they talking about hard feed? As in the horse has access to forage and only gets hard feed after a ride? I know several people that do that… Surely the anon would have enough common sense to know that having days when they don’t eat is abusive…
I think they meant hard feed…..like most people I know only feed hard feed when their horse is in work and actually needs the extra boost lmao
